Unpli, prize in Capitol for “Save your local language-Section School”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – School directors, students and Pro Loco gathered in the room Giulio Cesare in Campidoglio for the award ceremony of the competition “Save your local language”, school section. The national literary award, which reached its eleventh edition, is promoted by Unpli – National Union Pro Loco of Italy and Ali – Local Autonomies for Italy, with the collaboration of the International Centre Eugenio Montale and, for the school section, Eip – School Instrument of Peace. “This opportunity is important to give young people the opportunity to meet dialects and local languages. There has been great participation and numbers speak clear: 1000 boys involved in over 90 institutions present, and this is the fruit of the work of teachers. It is essential that the language passes by the boys and is maintained for the future,” says Antonino La Spina, President Unpli.
The initiative also confirms its cultural and educational value this year, involving about 90 Italian schools and a Croatian institute on a path dedicated to the protection of linguistic heritage, the memory of communities and the dialogue between generations.
The local languages and dialects represent a living part of the identity of the territories: they preserve stories, traditions, ways of thinking and expressive forms that risk losing themselves if they are not transmitted to the younger ones. Bringing them to schools means recognizing their educational value and strengthening the link between students, families and communities.
“It was not for granted that so many schools participated, that they have tried something that does not directly touch the boys. Schools are increasingly multiethnic and the commitment of individuals to make known the language of the place where one lives is a great sign of peace,” adds Luca Abbruzzetti, president of ALI Lazio.
The morning in Campidoglio celebrated students, school leaders, referent teachers and Pro Loco who contribute to the dissemination of the Award and to the promotion of territorial identities through poetry, prose and music. “The dialects are the tool to bring children closer to a more material reality, to a world where the day was more directly lived. Responsibility of the language is important: there are words defined empty boxes – such as freedom, democracy, love and pain – and we must fill them with things. The more we know words and the more we express our thoughts”, the thought of Elio Pecora, president of the Jury of the Prize.
After the awards, the Award “Cultori del dialetto e delle lingua locale” was awarded to Professor Francesco Avolio, professor of Linguistica at the University of L’Aquila, and the “Testimone del Genius Loci” Award to Angela Puglisi, president of the Pro Loco di Novara di Sicilia. Recognition also to the UNPLI Pro Loco which have distinguished themselves in the dissemination of the Prize and in the involvement of school institutions.
