I extend the warmest greetings to those who will take part, in the certainty that the Rimini days will prove to be a valuable enrichment for all, and to the organizers and volunteers I express my appreciation for the commitment deployed.” This is the message sent by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to the President of the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples Foundation, Bernhard Scholz. “The theme of this edition expresses the cultural roots of the Meeting by proposing an open look at the extraordinary transformations we are experiencing.
One wants to search for the essential just as the global flows of information become flooding rivers, while technosciences show us solutions that were unimaginable until yesterday, while the opportunities offered to individuals re-propose the fallacious flattery of man’s omnipotence,” Mattarella continued.
“Yet, in the face of so many new chances for humanity, we touch on the horror, atrocities and escalation of wars, the will to dominate, with a dramatic return to the past. Feelings of fear, distrust, sometimes indifference, not infrequently resentment and hatred, resurface.
That is why it is essential to put the person back at the center. The desire for life and fullness, in relationship with the community. Because what is essential does not lie in the separate, self-sufficient self, but in the encounter with the other, in the discovery of the truths of which the other is the bearer, and thus in walking together, in the tomorrow to be thought of and built. The educational and cultural commitment, to which the Meeting bears witness, is of great value,” concluded the President of the Republic.
