ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Marco Toro, Chairman and CEO of Nissan Italia, has been appointed member of the ELMO Scientific Committee, the National Interuniversity Consortium for Mobility Electrification. Directed by Professor Santolo Meo of the Federico II University of Naples, the Consortium represents the Italian academic community of reference in the field of electric mobility. The appointment is part of the collaboration and comparison between Nissan and the Italian university world on the issues of electrification, technological innovation and the formation of the new generations of engineers. ELMO brings together research groups belonging to 15 Italian universities, combining knowledge, skills and resources with the aim of encouraging technology transfer in the field of sustainable mobility. The Consortium was born from the experience of teachers and researchers in the field of converters, machines and electrical drives. It promotes studies, research and high training on terrestrial, naval and aerospace electric mobility, with the aim of making transport more sustainable on the environmental, economic and social level. It also promotes the sharing of knowledge and resources and technology transfer, providing support to European, national and local government bodies in planning and controlling sustainable mobility. The Scientific Committee, of which Marco Toro joined as an expert in the field of electric mobility, has a scientific consultative function: it elaborates multiannual plans of activity, formula proposed for the development of the activities of the Consortium and expresses opinions on the scientific aspects connected with its aims. The entry into the ELMO Scientific Committee is a further step in Nissan’s commitment to promoting the spread of ever more sustainable mobility and creating opportunities for comparison between industry, research and university world. A commitment that has already seen Marco Toro protagonist at some of the main Italian universities, including the University of Naples Federico II, within the project Nissan e-4U, born to approach young engineers to the automotive sector and technologies for sustainable, safe and connected mobility. The Nissan e-4U, where “e” stands for electrification, “4” (four) refers to initiatives dedicated to students, graduates and graduates of Engineering departments, and “U” indicates University, and is divided into four stages: Theoretical training: seminars in the classroom on leadership and mobility of the future, focusing on technologies of electrification, autonomous driving and connectivity; Experimental training: road and laboratory tests of Nissan technologies; Research: Scholarships for Master Degrees with thesis on automotive topics;Occupation: internships for master graduates at Nissan Italy in technical and commercial sectors. Nissan is also accelerating its electrification path in Europe. At the new generation of Qashqai e-POWER – Nissan’s exclusive hybrid technology with 100% electric drive without plug charging that travel more than 1,200 km with a 55 litre gasoline – the new 100% electric MICRA and the new LEAF, respectively with autonomy up to 416 km and up to 622 km with a single charge. The new range will continue with JUKE EV, for the first time 100% electric, and PIXO, the new segment A electric city car developed specifically for Europe, with autonomy up to 259 km. The new Kicks, equipped with third generation e-POWER, will be produced at the Nissan factory in Sunderland in the UK. In parallel to the expansion of the range, Nissan considers e-POWER an important solution to accompany customers in the transition to increasingly electrified mobility. Marco Toro, Presidente and CEO of Nissan Italia, said: “The entry into the ELMO Scientific Committee is an important opportunity for me to confront the academic world on issues that are transforming mobility. Nissan has a long experience in electrification and strongly believes in the value of collaboration between universities and industry, fundamental to develop new skills, accelerate innovation and make sustainable mobility increasingly accessible and concrete. A path that we have already embarked on with Nissan e-4U and that today we can further strengthen through the contribution to the activities of ELMO”. The Director of the ELMO Consortium Prof. Santolo Meo said: “Electrification is redesigning mobility, supply chains, infrastructure and skills. ELMO is born from the desire to give university research a more incisive role in this transformation: identifying challenges, building solutions and contributing to the strategic choices of the country. The entry of a prestigious name like that of Marco Toro strengthens dialogue with the great realities of mobility and our ambition to make the Consortium a reference that unites scientific rigor, industrial vision and responsibility towards the future”.
