BELGRADE (SERBIA) (ITALPRESS) – “We have always had Italy’s support and I believe we will have it in the future as well.” Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said this, according to Serbian news agency Tanjug, during a press conference in Belgrade with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on the sidelines of the Italy-Serbia Business Forum.
“With Tajani we talked openly about the situation in our country,” stressed Vucic, who about the student demonstrations explained, “We believe that the demands have been met. We invite everyone to dialogue and refrain from any form of violence. Of course, I am always ready to listen to different points of view and opinions.”
Regarding investment in Serbia, Vucic recalled that surveys show that more than 90 percent of Italian companies that have already invested in Serbia would do so again.
As for the government crisis, “I assume that next week, or when the session of the Assembly of Serbia is already scheduled, the resignation of the executive will be formalized,” the president stressed. From that moment there are 30 days for the formation of a new majority in Parliament. If it is not possible to get it, we will go to early elections.”
For his part, Tajani reiterated Italy’s commitment to support Serbia’s EU accession process. “There was talk of 2030. I think it can happen sooner, Italy will definitely work for that,” the deputy prime minister and foreign minister said. Tajani stressed that Serbia is a key factor for stability in the region and for Europe’s prosperity, as well as a safe country for investment.
