As soon as the Iranian justice system informs Foreign Affairs, it will be told for what reasons Cecilia Sala was arrested.” This was said by Antonio Tajani, deputy prime minister and foreign minister, in a telephone link with Zona Bianca on Rete4, regarding the Italian journalist detained since December 19 in Iran. “Times are what they are, but we have noticed a certain willingness especially regarding the treatment of Cecilia Sala, our ambassador has done her best to ensure that she is treated in the best way possible,” he added. “The dialogue is open, we are working in every way to try to bring her home as soon as possible. It is a very delicate situation, quite intricate, but the government is doing its utmost, we are all committed to try to solve the problem. “The timeline for the journalist’s release “is not conceivable, the negotiation is very delicate, it is not easy,” the foreign minister explained. “We are doing everything possible so that the timeframe is short, however, it does not depend on the Italian authorities. The situation is quite complicated, that’s why we have asked everyone for maximum confidentiality, not to emphasize the situation, to let those who are operational right now, our embassy in Tehran and our consulate, work so that they can carry out their activities in favor of Cecilia Sala in the best way.”
