After our coverage of the tragic incident, new details have emerged about the death of 22-year-old Agata Margaret Spada, who passed away on November 7 following a botched rhinoplasty filler procedure. The young woman, from the province of Syracuse, traveled to a clinic on Via Pavese in Rome’s EUR district on November 4 for what was supposed to be a quick 20-minute procedure costing 2,800 euros. Unfortunately, three days after the surgery, she fell into a coma and later died, with no clear record of payment for the procedure found.
The investigation has now expanded to include Marco and Marco Antonio Procopio, a father-and-son duo of surgeons, who are facing charges of manslaughter following their involvement in the procedure. The two doctors were first contacted by Spada after she saw a TikTok advertisement promoting their services. Upon searching the clinic, Carabinieri from the NAS (Health Unit of the Carabinieri) found alarming evidence: no clinical records, no informed consent form, and no trace of proper medical documentation. Instead, it was revealed that Spada had sent her electrocardiogram and blood tests via WhatsApp, but no one in the clinic had reviewed these before the procedure.
The case took an even more tragic turn when a video filmed by Spada’s boyfriend surfaced, showing the frantic moments following her collapse, as she began experiencing severe symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and tremors, before slipping into unconsciousness. Medical professionals suspect that Spada suffered an anaphylactic shock, likely triggered by the injection, although the exact cause remains unclear. Attempts to resuscitate her failed, and she was rushed to Sant’Eugenio Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The authorities are now awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death and what was in the injection administered during the procedure. The medical community and the public are waiting for answers, as the investigation continues to uncover more about the unregulated practices that led to Spada’s death.
