Tragic Family Shooting in Nuoro: Man Kills Wife, Children, and Neighbor

Tragic family shooting in Nuoro: man kills wife, children, and neighbor

On Wednesday morning in Nuoro, Sardinia, a shocking family tragedy unfolded when 52-year-old Roberto Gleboni shot and killed his wife, two children, and a neighbor before turning the gun on himself. Gleboni, a previously law-abiding employee of the Forestas agency, which manages forestry in the region, was reported to be a member of the Fai CISL union.

Investigators revealed that the horrific events began around 7 a.m. when Gleboni shot his wife, Giuseppina Massetti, at their home. He then moved to the bedroom of his 25-year-old daughter, Martina, where he also fatally shot her. The couple’s two other children, aged 9 and 14, were also targeted; the younger son was critically injured and later declared brain dead, while the older son suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

After the tragic killings, Gleboni encountered his 69-year-old neighbor, Paolo Sanna, in the hallway and shot him, resulting in serious injuries that also led to a declaration of brain death in the hospital. Gleboni then drove to his mother’s house, where he shot her in the neck, but she is reported to be in stable condition. Following this, he took his own life in front of her, using the same firearm he had used in the earlier murders.

Gleboni possessed the pistol legally for sport shooting, and he had recently renewed his firearms permit. Reports suggest he had a strong interest in guns. The motive behind this tragic incident remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing. Neighbors and acquaintances mentioned that Gleboni and his wife were in the process of separating, yet there had been no prior indications of domestic violence or complaints against him.

The sole surviving son told investigators that an argument between his parents had occurred shortly before the shootings. As the community reels from this tragedy, questions linger about the events that led to such a devastating outcome.
