NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Today in New York begins the mission of Undersecretary Claudio Barbaro, representing the Italian Government, at the 81 General Assembly of the United Nations. Until next Friday, Barbaro will participate in a series of high-level meetings that touch the central themes of the international climate and environmental agenda: from the ocean culture to the right energy transition, from rising sea level to finance for losses and damage. The first appointment on the agenda today is dedicated to the role of science and education in the protection of the oceans and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
“I will resume Italy’s full support for the UNESCO Ocean Literacy programme, recalling the World Tour of the Nave School Amerigo Vespucci, the Village Italy and the role of Venice, which houses the operational secretariat of the program. I will then participate in the UN High-Level Meeting on Climate Action and the Trans Justition, bringing the Italian vision of a pragmatic, inclusive and technologically neutral transition, founded on Piano Mattei and our adherence to the NAP Implementation Alliance with Brazil, Germany and UNDP – said Barbaro from New York –. I will take part in the high-level meeting on raising the sea level, reaffirming Italy’s commitment, for almost twenty years alongside the SIDS on sustainable energy, adaptation, water security and protection of the oceans, with particular attention to cultural heritage and human rights”.
“Finally, I will participate in the event on the Fund for Loss and Danni, where I will confirm Italy’s commitment. In all these events, Italy will bring a clear message: the challenge is not to choose between climate action and development, but to transform the transition into a lever of sustainable growth, energy security and resilience, so that no country and no community stay back,” he added.
