University of Palermo and Apple together to train app experts

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Training experts in app creation with the support of specialists in program development on Apple technologies. The American giant has in fact chosen the University of Palermo to expand the “Apple foundation UniPa” academic program, currently present only in Campania, thus offering students the opportunity to take new advanced courses in the use and integration of Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence technologies. The University of Palermo launched the program’s courses in June 2024, and has already completed three of them, certifying about eighty students. “Apple has provided all the necessary technology to equip the classroom designated by the Athenaeum for exclusive use for the fruition of the courses and the devices to be provided to the learners, such as computers and cell phones,” stresses Pietro Paolo Corso, the Rector’s Delegate for Extra-Ordinary Projects and the Athenaeum’s Digital Infrastructure. “The courses are taught mainly by teaching and non-teaching staff of the Athenaeum, specially trained by Apple Teachers from the Parthenope University of Naples to deliver courses adhering to an international program. The agreement entered into between UniPa and Apple Inc. provides for several editions of basic courses to be delivered throughout the year,” he adds. The training activity envisaged by UniPa’s program consists of courses, lasting one month, certified by the American company and provided by the university, free of charge and aimed at all students in bachelor’s, master’s or PhD programs. “The program’s international experiences, including that of UniPa,” explains Giosuè Lo Bosco, professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and head of the program for UniPa, “have met with widespread interest not only from students enrolled in ICT courses, but also from other disciplines such as Communication Sciences, Medicine and Law. The programming language adopted for IOS APP development is extremely simple and close to the concept of coding. Foundation courses use innovative teaching methodologies, such as challenge-based learning, adopted by the university staff involved in the project.” “UniPa’s Apple Foundation Program is undoubtedly an extraordinary experience,” explains Massimo Midiri, Rector of the University of Palermo, “within which students can confront themselves in an international context of absolute excellence, working in teams in the realization of a project and achieving at the end of the course a special certification. The activation of this international program in partnership with Apple aims to train experts in the creation of apps, a professional figure that is growing rapidly in Italy and Europe. A training with these specific skills represents a great and concrete opportunity for the professional future of our students who will have the possibility to continue with more advanced courses towards the so-called Developer Academies present all over the world. There are also plans to activate an advanced course aimed at training in the use and integration of Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence technologies,” the rector concluded.
