NAIROBI (KENYA) (ITALPRESS) – Fourteen Italian students from Lumsa University are in Kenya, at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) to participate in a special two-week Winter School that will allow them an immersive experience in the reality of Kenya and Africa. According to a statement, Professor Gennaro Iasevoli, pro-rector for research and internationalisation and Professor Pliny Limata, who were welcomed by Professor Damian M. Maingi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, Advancement & Development and were able to have talks on possible joint future cooperation projects between the two universities.
The program of the Winter School not only provides lectures but also dialogues and comparisons with Kenyan students and professors and a second outside the classrooms, in an experience of direct knowledge of social, entrepreneurial, diplomatic, cultural and economic reality of Kenya, a country of reference in the African continent. Lumsa students will visit the popular neighbourhoods of the capital Nairobi, the new “smart city” of Konza, a great technological hub, and the “Luigi Broglio” Space Centre in Malindi, a structure that is becoming a reference pole for the development of the latest nanosatellites, the CubeSat.
The initiative was born from the Partnership between Lumsa and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa – a young university, born in 1984 and which took the current denomination in 1993 – in the notion of the initiatives that the Lumsa University Africa Center, directed by the amb. Pietro Sebastiani, is launching to activate ways of knowledge and collaboration with countries on the African continent that face new development models based on innovation and digital. Lumsa students before their departure had a meeting with S. Ecc. Fredrick Mattwanga’a, Kenyan ambassador in Italy who underlined the ever closer ties that his country has with European countries and Italy in particular, in the perspective of a “harambee”, a word that in Swahli means “to team”. On the spot the young will also meet the Italian ambassador in Kenya, S. Ecc. Vincenzo Del Monaco.
