CAGLIARI (ITALPRESS) – Starting from northern Sardinia “Alga a chi?”, the summer action 2026 of the campaign “I am not an alga” promoted by the Conservatory Agency of the Coasts of Sardinia – Autonomous Region of Sardinia, with the coordination and scientific support of Sémata Società Cooperativa, dedicated to the knowledge and protection of the Oceanic Posidonia. That’s what you read in a note. The first appointment is scheduled tomorrow in Castelsardo, on the beach of Ampurias in Lu Bagnu, from 9:30 to 10:30, with an awareness gathering and distribution of materials dedicated to Posidonia and its role in the protection of coastal ecosystems. The initiative is realized with the collaboration of the National Park of Asinara – Marine Area Protected “Island of Asinara”, of the CRAMA – Marine Animal Recovery Centre of Asinara, of the C.V.S.M. Search and Rescue, by Econova and the Bullit Surf Club Castelsardo, with the accession of the Municipality of Castelsardo – Environment Councillor. On the same day the campaign will also stop at Aglientu: in the morning an eco-sustainable creative workshop “art attack” on the Posidonia oceanica, while from 14:30 on the beach of Rena Majore will be held a dissemination activity aimed at children of the town summer center and visitors, by the environmental guide Salvatore Nurra. The campaign kits and participation certificates will be distributed.
“Alga a chi?” involves ten coastal municipalities of Sardinia, which between August and October will bring the materials of the countryside on days of environmental education, beach activities, clean-ups, local events and appointments with schools. Each acceding municipality receives a kit consisting of a digital dissemination package with graphics and ready content for social and web sites, a sand-friendly shopper in personalised organic cotton with the claim “Alga a chi?” and the Posidonia Memory Card, an educational game of 24 tiles dedicated to Posidonia, biodiversity and coastal habitats. The action is part of the three-year program “Recognize and defend our coast, starting from the prairies of Posidonia oceanica” (2026-2028) of the Conservatoria delle Coste, which also addresses the issues of reduction, reuse and recycling. The message is simple and direct: the leaves that we find on the heartbeat are not waste. The banquettes, the accumulations of leaves that naturally form along the sand, hold the sand, sustain biodiversity and help the beaches to resist the action of the waves and erosion.
“‘Alga a chi?’ is a participatory action, to which the municipalities responded enthusiastically, and it is only the first of a series of initiatives. The first step to protect an ecosystem is to know: those leaves on the beat are not a rejection, but the natural solution that defends our beaches from erosion. It is the very mandate of the Conservatory – to know, protect and sustainably manage the island’s coastal heritage – to ask us to start from knowledge. We will proceed for stages, inform, protect the coasts, value the solutions that nature already offers us, involving in the years other municipalities, coastal and not, schools and citizens: we want more and more ambassadors of our coast”, explains Maria Elena Dessì, Director of the Conservatory Agency of the Coasts of Sardinia. The start of the campaign follows for a few weeks a significant passage for the management of Posidonia in Sardinia: last July 30 the Regional Junta, on proposal of the council of the Defense of the Environment Rosanna Laconi, has approved the operating addresses for the predisposition of the first regional plan of management of the Posidonia oceanica, in implementation of the regional law n. 1 of 2020, with resources pairs to 4 million euros in the triennial 2026-20.
For Rosanna Laconi, Regional Councillor for the Protection of the Environment, “it means first to recognize the value of what we have received and assume the responsibility to preserve it over time. Posidonia is a heritage of biodiversity, but also an extraordinary natural infrastructure that protects our coasts and contributes to their ability to adapt to climate change. Scientific knowledge, community planning and awareness must become part of the same public policy. This campaign has this value: transforming knowledge into a culture of protection. Defending Posidonia means investing in the environmental quality of Sardinia and delivering to future generations the most integral, resilient and living coasts”. Also in August there are activities in Narbolia, with an awareness-raising event in Is Arenas, while Arborea, Sant’Anna Arresi and Orosei will use the materials in the summer initiatives of the sembrian and the presence on the beaches. In September the calendar continues with Sorso with initiatives in the Marina di Sorso; on 19 and 20 September the campaign moves to Cabras, in conjunction with the Festival of Bottarga, alongside the summer work of the Sinis Sentinels in the beaches of the Marine Protected Arena Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre. Still initiatives in Aglientu with a day of clean-up and environmental education in Rena Majore, in collaboration with Plastic Free; while in Valledoria the campaign will also enter schools.
