ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Developed specifically for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+, recently presented as the first Official FIA F1 Safety Car with fully variable integral traction, the new Pirelli P Zero R is a very high performance tyre that combines “qualified” performance on the dry and an extremely precise steering response, maintaining a safe driving even on the wet. This P Zero R, in fact, was developed to ensure constant performance even during the Safety Car interventions in Formula 1, where precision, reliability and control become fundamental. This ability to perform on dry and wet is the result of a bi-mixed tread and, thanks to the virtualization, of the study of specific details of the tread design, specifically aimed at the optimization on this car, the result of co-design with the engineers of Affalterbach and refined through the virtual simulation models typical of Pirelli’s development work. The two compounds, the full/empty ratio and the width of the tread design channels have been designed to work in synergy with the suspension geometry and the camber of the car, optimizing the tyre’s ground footprint in the different conditions of use. This contributes to maximizing grip and improving steering accuracy, increasing stability at high speeds without any compromise in wet asphalt conditions. This project is part of the role Pirelli has played in Formula 1 as a unique supplier of tyres since 2011, recently confirmed by FIA and Formula 1 and extended until 2028. A link that has rooted since the first race in 1950 and that over the years has seen the company accompany the technical evolution of the FIA Formula One World Championship, exceeding in 2025 the finish line of the 500 Grand Prix played. The experience gained on the track, even in the most extreme conditions, represents for Pirelli an innovation laboratory that is also reflected in the development of road tires. The 21′′′ P Zero R for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ was designed by Pirelli to transfer to the ground all the power of the 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine, capable of delivering 450 kW (612 CV) and 850 Nm maximum torque. A car designed to offer high performance and driveability, also thanks to the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ integral traction, which requires tires that can satisfy the sudden load transfers, allowing the high dynamic potential. The P Zero R exalts these characteristics thanks to the high grip, the precision of response and the consistency of performance, qualities that make it the ideal tyre also for use on track. This product – the first P Zero R made to measure for a Mercedes-AMG – has been subjected to extensive testing on the Nùrburgring and Nardò, with the participation of Bernd Maylànder, AMG brand ambassador and FIA F1® Safety Car Driver, and other experienced Safety Car drivers, who appreciated the constancy of performance and the high tire grip level in a wide range of conditions. This project confirms the consolidated collaboration between Pirelli and Mercedes-AMG in the development of high-performance tyres, the result of a co-design path that integrates the skills of the two brands from the early stages of vehicle development and that has led to today the realization of more than 150 fitment. In line with the Perfect Fit approach, the equipment for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ is identified by the presence on the side of the “MO1” marking that specifies the dedicated development for this model. Also the previous Official FIA F1® Safety Car signed by the brand of sports cars and high performance of Affalterbach, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which held the role from 2022 to 2026, was equipped con tires Pirelli P Zero. The most recent achievement of the collaboration between Pirelli and Mercedes-AMG was the record at the Nùrburgring-Nordschleife of the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+, equipped with the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS. With a time of 7:32,070 minutes, the four-door sports sedan won the fastest vehicle title in its segment in the legendary German circuit.
