Labor, Mattarella “Deaths and accidents offend collective conscience”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Work-related deaths and accidents are an intolerable offense to the collective conscience. Carrying out an activity that contributes to the material or spiritual progress of society cannot and should not involve risks to the integrity of individuals.” Thus the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the presentation of the report of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into working conditions in Italy, in a message sent to the president, Chiara Gribaudo. “Safety at work is a necessary condition to make effective the fundamental and inalienable right to health, protected by the Constitution, which cannot find limits in the lack or inadequacy of suitable measures to make work and the places where it takes place healthy and free of danger,” the head of state adds. “The commitment to this end by the institutions and social partners will never be sufficient. The report of the commission of inquiry into working conditions in Italy will be able to offer a significant contribution of knowledge and analysis. In renewing closeness to the relatives of those killed in the Brandizzo train tragedy, some of whom were present at today’s initiative, I address feelings of solidarity to the victims and family members of all work accidents,” Mattarella concluded.(ITALPRESS).-Photo: Quirinale press office-
