Francesco Favretto, a 22-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries today, December 23, following a violent attack on December 12 in the center of Treviso. The assault, involving a group of around 10 youths, included minors and several girls. Favretto was attacked with a knife and a broken glass bottle. After more than 10 days in critical condition at Ca’ Foncello Hospital, he passed away from severe neck injuries. Three suspects have been arrested: a 15-year-old minor and two adults, aged 18 and 19.
The altercation occurred in a parking lot near Via Castelmenardo shortly after 8 p.m. on December 12. Emergency responders arrived to find Favretto unconscious and bleeding heavily, following an alarm raised by a young woman. According to police investigations, the attack was linked to a dispute over drugs. “Our findings confirm it was a fight among youths with the intent to steal narcotics,” stated Treviso Police Chief Alessandra Simone in an interview with TrevisoToday.
Commenting on the arrests, Simone emphasized the importance of both prevention and immediate intervention. “When prevention fails, repression must be swift, and that is what we have done,” she said, noting the need for coordinated efforts to address youth delinquency. “We must be deeply concerned and focus on rehabilitation programs for young people. Prevention must work because this tragic case shows that our youth are heading down a dangerous path.”
