Fatal Crash on A1 Near Florence Causes Severe Traffic Disruptions

Two dead as a collision involving a truck and three cars halts traffic on a major highway

Florence, December 9, 2024 – Two people lost their lives in a collision involving a truck and three cars on the A1 highway near Florence, at kilometer 264 heading north. The accident prompted the closure of the stretch between Calenzano and the junction for the A1 Direttissima toward Bologna. Traffic within the closed section came to a standstill, creating a five-kilometer backup. In a statement, Autostrade per l’Italia advised light vehicles to exit at Calenzano, follow signs for Croci di Calenzano, and rejoin the highway at Barberino.

Emergency services, including highway personnel, police, and rescue teams, are at the scene to manage the situation and assist those affected. Authorities are working to clear the site and reopen the highway as soon as possible. Drivers are urged to plan alternative routes and exercise caution while traveling in the area.
